Wireless 5G is better than 2.4, Right? 5G seems to be all the hype. The truth is, 2.4G can get conjested. Think of 5G as the express or HOV lane. Pretty soon, 5G will become conjested, and since everyone moved from 2.4G, it is now un-conjested.
5G is faster you say....You can only move data as fast as your internet provider will let you, and 2.4G band running N, will still run 300MB+.
So remember, the big difference between 2.4G and 5G is frequency interference.
The nuts and bolts, dual band and bandsteering:Clients often join the 2.4 radio because, without proper tx power adjustment, they see better RSSI on 2.4, even if SNR is worse. Client devices are mostly stupid, for lack of a better word. The EIRP in 5 GHz band needs to be 6 dB higher to have roughly the same cell size as on 2.4 GHz. If you want to manually steer clients to 5 GHz, you need to make sure they see better RSSI in that band in as many locations as possible.
By default, and I mean, God made it this way, and you cannot change it, 5G has a -6db less range than 2.4G.
There is much, much more to wireless than just unboxing it and turning it on. In fact, this will most likely make things worse.
That is why it is so important to have a wirless engineer look at and evaluate your environment and engineer the proper solution.
